The typing_indicator.* events announce that a contact starts or stops typing. Only a line whose device detects typing sends them: an iMessage line, rented, BYOD or shared, never does. This page says when each event is sent and lists the fields of data. See Chat features for the typing indicator your own line shows.

Common fields

These events are sent only when the line’s device reports that a contact is typing. On a BYOD line, read its typing_in capability on GET /v1/lines/{id}/health. These events are not sent for a typing indicator you start or stop yourself. Personal data. from_handle is a handle: a phone number or an email address. Do not copy it into logs, tickets or other tools. Refer to a contact by an id of your own.
