# Binding events

> Gives the data of binding.released, the event that announces the end of a binding on a shared line, with an example and the personal data it carries.

On a shared line, a binding ties one contact to the number that serves them. The first message to
the contact creates it. The `binding.*` family has one event type, which announces that a binding
ended. This page says when it is sent, lists the fields of `data`, and shows a full event. See
[Shared lines](/guides/getting-a-line#shared-lines) for how a shared line works.

No event announces that a binding is created: the first `message.queued` or `message.scheduled` to a
new contact is the signal.

## `binding.released`

Sent when the binding between a shared line and one contact ends.

| `outbound_number` | string | Yes | The number that served the contact. |

| `metadata` | null | Always `null` | A binding carries no `metadata`. |
| `line_metadata` | object | Yes | The `metadata` of the shared line. See [`metadata` and `line_metadata`](/webhooks/event-catalog#metadata-and-line_metadata). |

| `reason` | Meaning |
| - | - |
| `inactivity` | No message was exchanged with that contact for the inactivity period, which iSnap sets to 90 days. |
| `carrier_terminated` | The shared line, or the line that carried the binding, was terminated. It is also the reason when you terminate your own shared line. |

Personal data: `contact_handle`. `outbound_number` is a number of iSnap. Do not copy
`contact_handle` into logs, tickets or other tools. Refer to a contact by an id of your own.
